"Repentance" is a Biblical word that simply means to
turn 100 percent away from something. As we look at our lives and
we see the sin that is there, we need to have hearts that want to
turn away from that sin.
Acts 17:30
In the past God overlooked such ignorance,
but now he commands all people everywhere to repent.
* What does it mean to
repent?
* If we were to repent of something we have done what would that
mean?
2 Corinthians
7:9-11
Yet now I am happy, not because you were
made sorry, but because your sorrow led you to repentance. For you
became sorrowful as God intended and so were not harmed in any way
by us. 10 Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to
salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death. 11See
what this Godly sorrow has produced in you: what earnestness, what
eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what
longing, what concern, what readiness to see justice done. At
every point you have proved yourselves to be innocent in this
matter.
* What do you think
"Godly sorrow" is?
* Why is repentance according to this passage so important?
Acts 2:37-38
When the people heard this, they were cut
to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles,
"Brothers, what shall we do?" 38Peter
replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the
name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you
will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
* What is the result of
repentance and baptism in this passage?
Acts 3:19
Repent, then, and turn to God, so that
your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from
the Lord.
* What is the benefit of
repenting from the standpoint of this passage?
Acts 26:20
First to those in Damascus, then to those
in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and to the Gentiles also, I
preached that they should repent and turn to God and prove their
repentance by their deeds.
* What does it
mean to "prove their repentance by their deeds"?
* If we lived the teaching of this passage, how would this be
lived out in our lives?
