The Learning Place Preschool

The Learning Place Preschool, a ministry of O'Fallon Church of Christ, has served the community since 1986. We are a Christian-based, academic preschool with an emphasis on learning through play and socialization. We strive to provide a loving atmosphere that recognizes each child's unique abilities through a creative, age-appropriate curriculum that serves to meet his/her needs. Our commitment goes beyond the time when the children are at the Learning Place Preschool. We also strive to be a resource of encouragement and support to our families who have placed their children in our care.

Our Program

Our preschool program is available for children ages 2 through Pre-K. Two or four day sessions are available (Mon/Wed, Tues/Thurs, or Mon-Thurs). Our hours are 9:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. We operate during the academic school year, August through May, and closely follow the holiday and inclement weather closings of the Fort Zumwalt School District. We do not provide meals; the children bring their own lunches and drink. We require children 3 y/o through pre-K to be completely potty trained before the school year begins. As space is available, we have ongoing open enrollment.

Our Teachers and Staff

One of the greatest and most important assets the Learning Place Preschool offers is the integrity of our teachers and staff. Our teachers strive to provide a loving atmosphere, where each child is nurtured in four basic needs: spiritual, intellectual, emotional and physical. Beyond teaching, they truly care about each and every child in their class. Our curriculum encourages creativity, socialization and play, while also focusing on academic development to prepare each child for kindergarten. In the classroom, encouragement is given to help each child grow and learn based on his/her individual abilities and strengths. Our teachers spend many hours in preparation for a successful school day. Hundreds of children and their families have experienced the powerful love of Christ through the commitment, teaching and daily example of our staff and teachers. As part of our hiring procedures a background check is performed and then repeated every two years on each staff member. The Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS), a division of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, provides the criminal record reviews.

The School Day

  • In the Classroom: The children are taught in various ways, fostering the development of gross and fine motor skills, social and academic growth, as well as the ability to listen and follow directions. Writing, reading and language skills; and numeric and math concepts are taught in the classroom. This is accomplished through a variety of fun and creative hands-on learning activities which are developed by each teacher for her class.
  • Music & Movement: Attended daily, this class offers a fun and energetic atmosphere, where the children learn to sing, catch a beat, and experiment with musical instruments. The children participate in various games and movement activities using the balance beam, mini trampoline, balls, tumble mat, etc. Our teachers also coordinate our "Grandparent's Day Tea" and musical programs in which the children participate.
  • Science & Discovery: Also attended daily, this class serves to expose the children to the world God made for them. They learn about their bodies, nature and the world. This is accomplished through many preschool-friendly science experiments and hands-on activities, where the children learn to observe and understand the world around them. Activities include: observing the life cycles of butterflies, tadpoles and plants; making snow, goo and play dough; and experimenting with magnets, things that float/sink, as well as sensory stimulating activities.
  • Chapel: Each day, the children come together to participate in chapel where they sing Bible songs and hear a Bible story. Each week, a color sheet will be sent home with your child showing the Bible story he/she learned that week. This is also the time where we recognize those who are celebrating birthdays.
  • Lunch & Recess: The children bring their own lunches and drink. We are unable to provide heating or refrigeration of food or drinks. We also ask that a healthy and nutritious lunch be provided. Supervised recess is provided daily to give the children a time of free play. Weather permitting the children play outdoors; however, we do have equipment available for those days that require indoor play. Please dress your child according to the weather each day.
  • Activities: Throughout the school year, the children participate in various activities including: musical programs, a Grandparent's Day Tea, visits from the fire department and librarian, Circus Day, holiday parties, a Thanksgiving Day feast, Olympic Day and a field trip to the pumpkin patch (Parental transportation and supervision is required).
  • * In case of spills or accidents, we ask that a set of weather appropriate clothing and socks be made available each day in your child's backpack.

    Registration Fee and Tuition

A yearly non-refundable registration fee is collected along with the registration form, which reserves your child's spot at preschool. Our monthly tuition is competitively priced compared to other schools offering the same number of hours. Please call for the current rate. We do give discounts for multiple siblings who are enrolled. Following registration, toward the end of July, you will receive a Welcome Letter containing a supply list along with other important information.

We have built many friendships throughout the years with our students and their families. We hope that you and your child find your time with us just as enjoyable and memorable and that our preschool is a blessing to their life, as well as yours.
