Hebrews 11:1
Now faith is being sure of what we hope
for and certain of what we do not see.
Romans 10:17
Consequently, faith comes from hearing the
message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.
* Where does faith come?
* In what ways can we hear the message?
2 Corinthians 5:7
We live by faith, not by sight.
* Why is this verse so
important to understanding what true faith is?
* What does it mean on a practical level to live by faith?
John 20:31
But these are written that you may believe
that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing
you may have life in his name.
* What is the result of
believing that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God?
* What does it mean to "have life in his name?" (see
John 3:16)
John 3:16-18
"For God so loved the world that he
gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not
perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into
the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not
believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in
the name of God's one and only Son."
* What does it mean to
"stand condemned?"
* What does this teach us about the importance of faith?
John 8:24
"I told you that you would die in
your sins; if you do not believe that I am the one I claim to be,
you will indeed die in your sins."
* According to this
passage what is the consequence of not believing?
James 2:14-18
What good is it, my brothers, if a man
claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? 15Suppose
a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. 16If
one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and
well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what
good is it? 17In the same way, faith by itself, if it
is not accompanied by action, is dead. 18But someone
will say, "You have faith; I have deeds." Show me your
faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.
* What does this passage
teach us about living our faith?
* How would our lives be changed if we lived our faith?
